implementation of the WebP image format within our system as it offers superior compression efficiency and is highly recommended by Google.

I would like to suggest the implementation of the WebP image format within our system as it offers superior compression efficiency and is highly recommended by Google.

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides significant advantages over traditional formats like JPEG and PNG. Its key benefits include:

  1. Enhanced Compression Efficiency: WebP utilizes advanced compression techniques, resulting in smaller file sizes while maintaining high image quality. This can lead to faster loading times for web pages and reduced bandwidth consumption.

  2. Optimized for Web: WebP is designed with web performance in mind. It supports both lossless and lossy compression, making it versatile for a wide range of use cases, from static images to animations.

  3. Google's Recommendation: Google, one of the leading authorities on web technology, actively encourages the adoption of WebP for web content. By implementing this format, we align ourselves with industry best practices and standards.

  4. Widespread Browser Support: Most major web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, have added support for WebP, ensuring compatibility with a vast majority of users.

  5. Improved User Experience: Faster loading times and reduced data usage can lead to a better overall user experience on our platform, potentially increasing user satisfaction and retention.

I believe that implementing the WebP format would be a valuable addition to our platform, aligning us with current web development trends and ensuring our users enjoy faster, more efficient access to visual content.

Pleeeeeaaassse implement WebP. This has been supported in Chrome since 2014. These old school GIFs are hurting our pagespeed scores.

      Hello!

Photo Center accepts image uploads and automatically optimizes delivery through Arc XP's integration with our CDN provider. This system ensures optimal image format delivery based on client capabilities.

      Upload Process

Users upload JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, or ICO files to Photo Center. The original asset is preserved as the source image, ensuring maximum compatibility and quality retention.

      Dynamic Format Selection

When a client requests an image, the CDN automatically evaluates the client's capabilities and delivers the most efficient supported format. For JPEGs, the format selection is as follows:

AVIF: Delivered to modern browsers with AVIF support, providing superior compression and quality

WebP: Served to browsers supporting WebP but not AVIF, offering improved efficiency over JPEG

JPEG: Provided as a fallback for clients without WebP or AVIF support

This process occurs transparently without requiring any action from content creators or developers. The CDN handles format selection and conversion automatically, optimizing both performance and visual quality.

Seconding this as we have frequently run into issues loading animated GIFs.
