Add an additional button to the toolbar that appears when you hover over a feature or chain. When clicked, this button will reveal the feature/chain in the sidebar. It will scroll into view and be highlighted in some way.
Because some of our pages and templates have many, many features and chains, it can be difficult to cross-reference what you're seeing in the right-hand pane with the list of items in the left-hand sidebar.

There is an improved experience in the new PB Editor that will address some of the usability issues you describe here.
A "reveal in sidebar" button would be added to the toolbar that appears when you hover over a feature or chain.
