Ideas for Arc XP

Warn users who are about to edit a linked feature

For example: I'm editing the Regional Homepage, and I want to edit the headline in a feature that is linked from the (main) Homepage, but I've forgotten that it is linked. If I click on the headline to edit it from the child page (or if I click the pencil button, or on the name of the feature in the list on the left), could that trigger a pop-up warning?

Such a warning might say:

You are about to edit a feature or chain that is linked from another page. If you make changes here and leave the link in place, your changes will be overwritten when that parent page is republished.

(a) OPEN THE PARENT PAGE to edit it there.

(b) UNLINK the feature/chain to edit it here.

(c) EDIT IT HERE, leaving the link in place. (Your changes will be overwritten if the parent page is republished.)

The bold warning is the important part. The action options would be nice. All of this can wait.

An additional idea: A large link icon that appears along with the other buttons when you mouse-over a linked feature (or feature within a linked chain).

We have implemented a first step to do this, if we need more options or a better work flow we will visit that in a future release.
