Ideas for Arc XP

Add Permission For 'Select all sections' Option on Circulations

Hi there,

I'm looking to see if we can add a permission for the "Select all sections" option on the Circulations screen when editing a gallery.

We've ran into a few situations, in which editors have added almost all available CMS sections of a site to a gallery, which ends up publishing that gallery to a lot of feeds and various locations on the site. We then have to remove all those sections after the fact to clean those feeds up.

One editor was helpful in explaining how this may have happened, and it appears to be tied to the "Select all sections" button on the Circulations screen when editing the gallery.

I'm curious if the "Select all sections" button can be permission-based, or if we can hide altogether? Another option is to set a max limit of how many sections can be added to a gallery when circulating it. Are there any options we can try to explore for a future Photo Center release?

I don't believe this button is available in other parts of Arc XP (like Composer or Video Center), so this really is the only place we appear to be encountering an issue like this, as elsewhere, you really do have to manually click on the + symbol to publish to that section.

Also, I filed this under the Permissions workspace in Arc Ideas, but if this is actually Photo Center, then please move this idea that workspace. If you also need additional details, please let me know.

Thanks!

    Hi there,

Just wanted to follow up here after seeing the latest Composer release notes. Can this button either be removed altogether from Composer until a permission is enabled, or just removed in general? It's causing more problems, versus just manually selecting the options that are needed.

    Thanks!

I'm adding my vote here, to restrict or remove access to "Select All Sections" when circulating, now that this experience is coming to Composer as well.

We regularly see photographers clicking Select All Sections when creating a gallery. The massive influx of metadata associated with ALL sections interferes with Outbound Feeds and prevents the gallery's direct link from working. I fear even worse complications if article metadata itself balloons like that.

Sure, we could warn users not to press it, but humans are humans and won't heed all warnings. I am not comfortable giving users a button that could seemingly disrupt normal website operations.

    Hi there,

We saw this issue occur again recently. I went to check on this Arc Idea and see that it's under "Needs more information" status. Could you please let me know what additional information may be needed to consider implementing this feature in Photo Center?

I don't think any gallery needs to be circulated to more than 10 sections, to be honest, and the "Select all sections" seems excessive if you have a lot of CMS sections available for that site's environment.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

I believe that is what is occurring, in which editors are doing just that: Accidentally clicking that "Select all sections" button. I think adding a warning tooltip would help, just to clarify to the editor what they are doing when they click that button.

    Thanks!

    Hi Troy!

Thank you for your idea! Sounds like your editors are accidentally hitting 'select all sections'. Is that right? Can you help us understand why that is happening?

I'm wondering if there are other ways to solve this problem by understanding the root of it. For example, what if we added a tooltip on hover to the "Selection all sections" button warning them that selecting this button will add all sections for the selected websites?

    Thanks for your discussion Troy!
