In my organization, we plan to use story templates in Composer to facilitate the process of 'story ordering'. It would ease things to go deeper in the management of story lifecycle and related template.
Wished capabilities: As a user, I can define in a story template a default length in character and some of the kickers/labels that are defined in Composer.
As a matter of fact, we defined some kickers/labels for freelancers payment like charged departement, ordered template and orders for media (nb of pictures, nb of videos, nb of podcats, etc.).
We would like to be able to define values for those kickers/labels in the story template.
Besides, in case the team leader would like to change what he ordered, he should be entitled to change the template applied to a story. In that case, the actual values of length, kickers/labels, etc. would be replaced by the ones from the story template.

Hi Lawrence, I'm thinking about something a but more elaborate. As a matter of fact, I indeed could set default values for kickers/labels when creating a story based on a template.
Nevertheless, things are seldom straight-forward in a newsroom and it is quite frequent that a team lead/chief editor needs to change the template to be used for a given story (which is already created). In that case, as a user, I'm not able to change the template applied to the story and along to that change, adapt some of the default values for kickers/labels that come with the new template.
E.g.: let's assume that my templates define primary site, planned character count and template name (corresponding to a form in the print CMS) and let's assume I created a stroy in template A.
I would like that changing the template of my story from template A to template B automatically resets the primary site, planned character count and template name according to template B just via a change of template of my story.
If not clear, just let me know your questions.
And not just metadata, but for a template to contain pre-entered content like an embed or a media object pre-selected to speed creation of frequently needed content like traffic or weather alerts.
Hi Guillaume - thanks for your idea. If I am understanding your kicker/labels template idea properly, you want to be able to set kickers/labels for the template and have that carry over for someone creating a story using that template. If so, that functionality currently exists.
As for the planned character count, we are looking to add that functionality by end of April, which will include being able to set it for a template.

Can you please submit this as a separate idea? Thanks!
