To allow the ability for use of AP State Wires as Composer articles, we needed to create individual Distributors for each AP State (eg AP VA, AP NY) and then apply restrictions to those distributors for just the sites that have AP rights to those state wires. The prevents non-rights use for AP content on sites which might mistakenly circulate a state wire article to their site. Example: AP VA is available only to WWBT, WDBJ, WHSV, WVVA.
Often AP will publish one content item (ID) to multiple product codes (ie state wires). This is often the case for Sports where articles may focus on upcoming games which involve teams from two different states.
Our ARC I/O setup only honors the first appearing product code from the AP API which then defines the state distributor/restriction in our setup. When this happens, another site which is not within the restriction used for that particular state wire is not able to use the article on their site even though as far as the AP API it is available to the product code they have rights to. Without some intervention from our Corporate team to either change the Distributor or create a combination Distributor for multiple states (not a workflow we would like) we are limited in use of the article.
If we could apply multiple distributors to articles which are then additive as far as restrictions, we could update the ARC I/O setup for the AP API to add all the products codes which appear for the particular article. In this manner an article from AP which is published to AP NY and AP CA would display for all sites which have rights to those state wires.
