Ideas for Arc XP

Add optional editor field

Add optional field for Editor alongside Author. Use cases:

  1. Account for Editor when editing happened outside of Arc, so revision history of post shows someone who built the post but maybe didn't edit it

  2. Record Editor for legal record keeping / audit purposes

  3. Option to show Editor on article page alongside Author byline

Hi Sam, please see a few questions below from our Sr. PM - Composer, Caytlyn Trickey:

Are you using themes or custom blocks? And how are you realistically trying to display this?

      • Do you want this to appear on the front-end, and if so, generally where/what do you want it to look like, and is that rendering currently controlled by Themes Blocks or Custom Code?

    • The original Idea says you want Option to show Editor on article page alongside Author byline but later comment says you want to "Program front end templates to exclude that field"

      • Do you actually want it to display on the front-end?

      • Could you please clarify what you expect in the mean time?

    • Do you add multiple editors? Kickers and labels just support single select at this point.

Just wanted to follow up on this. We've had to create a LOT of workaround for this that are either resulting in less than ideal newsroom workflows or additional engineering bandwidth to mitigate the issues of not having a true editor field. Would be great to have this prioritized - happy to discuss further.

We have a lot of freelancers, so editing happens for/with them in Google Docs. There are also members of newsroom staff who prefer to write/edit in Google Docs rather than within a CMS. Sometimes the person who builds the post in the CMS is not responsible for editing the post – it could be the writer or a member of our production staff.

This request is not about revision history capture at all – only having a record of who was responsible for the editing. I've attached what our current (homegrown) CMS offers for this.

Our legal team and newsroom confirmed they want this record maintained, so our workaround for now will be to:

    • Add another author

    • For that author, write Editor in a custom Role field

    • Program front end templates to exlude that field

Hi there! Thanks for submitting this idea. We'll keep this in mind as we develop future enhancements to our metadata fields. Can you describe more about what kind of editing happens outside of Arc? It sounds like you'd like to have a field that captures who is providing editorial feedback and capturing that specifically in Revision history, as well as having the option to surface the editor on the story. Is that correct?
