In the old Composer, when you make a publication pitch, the default selection is "default."
In the new Composer 2.0, there is no default. Rather it says "select a section."
Right now, generally, editors just pitch every story to "default."
As we transition to the new Composer, a worry has arisen that editors will pitch stories far and wide across sections, since they don't see a simple default of "default" to just accept. This will make it more difficult to find stories in the publication lists, thereby complicating publication story placement, especially under daily editorial time constraints.
Would it be possible to make the "default" section the actual default for the section picker for publication pitches?

Another annoying thing is that once you have chosen a publication the list remains on the screen and you have to click somewhere else to close it to even see that you have to also choose a section.

Yes, you have it right. In old Composer, when you select a Publication, the Section has a drop-down menu, but the first item in it is "default," so you don't even need to drop down the drop-down menu. You don't have to select anything. (You can if you want to, though.)
In Composer 2.0, that drop-down menu says "select a section," so you do have to drop down the drop-down menu and select a section.
It would be great if the "default" section was just there, so most times, editors wouldn't even have to do anything.

I want to confirm with you that I understand the request.
When pitching a story to a Publication, once you've selected the Publication you want the Section to be auto-populated. For example, WebSked auto-populates the first Section in the Publication, which in your case is the "Default" Section.
Is that correct?
