Composer 2 workflow status pain point

When filing a story, reporters change workflow status from "Draft" to "To Edit." And then editors change it from "To Edit" to "To Produce." In the old interface, I could change a story's status and then click "Save & Exit" (see first screenshot) – I'd be out of the story and the people who need to tackle it next would automatically get an alert. In the new interface, there is no saving at all when changing a story's status (second screenshot), and certainly no "Save & Exit" – but the alert still goes off telling editors and/or producers that a story is ready for them.Every single time a reporter has filed a story to me since we changed to the new interface, they are still in the story when I go to edit it, because they need to click multiple extra times to exit. Now I need to either kick them out/takeover the story, or have a conversation asking them to leave. Lots of extra steps and workflow for a process that used to be seamless.

Thank you so much for the additional context here. I'll connect with the Composer team on how we can get this prioritized and address this pain point. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again!

hi there. Yes, in composer 2.0 we now have numerous extra clicks when filing a story. Instead of being able to change story status, save, and exit in a single go, changing story status is done separately from saving and exiting.

Under the previous workflow, reporters would automatically exit the story they were working on as soon as they filed it because they clicked “save and exit” when they filed. With nearly every story that’s been filed since we changed to Composer 2.0, the reporter has not exited the story when filing. I get the alert via webked that a story is ready, and then when I go to exit the story I see it locked and I need to track down the person who filed it to make sure they are actually done — or kick them out of the story manually and hope we don’t lose anything they were working on.

I’m attaching screenshots of what we had before and what we have now.

Hi Heather, I'm not seeing any screenshots attached to this idea, but it sounds like you aren't seeing "Save and Exit" functionality inside of Composer 2.0 is that correct? We do have this capability however it is now under a dropdown next to the save button (see the attached file). However it sounds like also you expected the story to save after selecting the change in status and additionally have the ability to save and exit the story AFTER changing the status, is that correct?
