Right now Result and Promo blocks pull content from the meta-description field. We almost never use that field but rely heavily on subheadline field in composer.
Would be nice to choose which is used and in what capacity.
Understand there are work arounds through custom content sources or custom blocks. This just seems like an option that would round out a couple standard blocks that are ALMOST there.
Hi Stephen – I understand it sounds like you want the Subheadline field to show up in the promo blocks. We've purposefully chosen to have the Description field show up in the promo blocks, and the Subheadline field shows up in the Subheadline block (which can display on the actual article page): https://redirector.arcpublishing.com/alc/arc-products/themes/user-docs/arc-blocks/content-header-blocks/#Subheadline-%E2%80%93-Arc-Block
Those two fields are separate so that writers can have different text in each spot. At this point, we don't plan to add the Subheadline to the promo blocks. There is a potential workaround for your newsroom – you could do a transform on custom content sources to change the ANS, so that whatever is written in subheadline.basic is applied to description.basic. Another option is to train the newsroom to use the Description field in Composer. Since content displayed in promo blocks is typically only a few weeks/months old at most, this could be done before your newsroom transitions to Themes (and you wouldn't have to worry about historical content).
