Hi ARC friends,
We are thinking to use the Websked tasks to handle our photo assignments.
As a photo editor, I would love to see which photographers are onsite shooting on a given day and during what period of time, so I can better allocate resources.
The event date/time or shooting date/time often differs from the start date or the deadline or the task. A reporter will be shooting till 11pm tonight, but the actual deadline for the assignment may not be until tomorrow morning because we want to give them time for editing the photo and etc.
So I want to set up a custom field for our "Photo Assignment" task called "Shooting date". I would like to set it to a data type "datetime" so when I create the task in Ellipsis, it shows a calendar for me so I can choose the date and time for the actual shooting event.
In Websked, I would like to be able to select a date or a range of date in the Tasks view to see all the tasks in that time duration.
I set up an custom field for our "Photo Assignment" task called "Event Address", and another "Phone Number", another "Photo requester", "Photo requester email", "Photo requester phone number".
I wish the "Event Address" will auto populate the address as I search on Google.
I wish the Phone Number will be formatted so we minimize the chance of missing a number.
I wish when I fill out the "Photo Requester" name, it auto populate the full name from our author service, and auto fill the contact info in "Photo requester email" and "Photo requester phone number".
All of the above are very easy to do in our current photo assignment system, SCC. And we hope to have the same level of convenience using ARC's tasking system.

Hi Sandra,
We have made several of the updates described above with our new Task pages. We don't have the formatting for the custom fields as you describe, but you can create generic custom fields. Those are further down on the roadmap.

Thanks for submitting this idea. We are in the process of improving the whole Task experience, which includes how you'll be able to manage custom fields. Your feedback with its detail is very valuable.

We are migrating to ARC and I see some of the same photo assignment/editing issues. We've talked to other news organizations who are using ARC and their photo teams do not use your system because of these issues.
