User Story
As a video producer in Video Center, I want to leverage the video trimmer to edit and clip content that is saved into Goldfish, but currently the trimmer is difficult to use because of some functional limitations and unclear UI elements.
Prioritized List of Changes
-
Separate playback controls (on video) from trimming controls
- Clicking playback bar does multiple things unclear which action is taken (playback vs. trimming)
- Playback indication in playback bar is often covered by the scrubber controls (over 10secs of playback is hidden behind control)
- Play Button restarts clip instead of just playing - frustrating when trying to edit
-
Better trimming accuracy with larger controls
- Scrubber ends are small and tough to click on and there no hover state to indicate they are clickable
- Scrubber dragging increments are too larger for longer content (1 sec +) making it difficult to pinpoint the exact frame for clipping
-
Ability to change time in/out via input fields (currently broken)
- Input field allows you to change numbers but scrubber won’t respond to the changes in the input field
Other Feedback
-
Buttons don’t have any tool tips making it hard to understand what each one does
-
There are a lot of buttons (i.e. play & play+ | what's the difference?)
- Time buttons don’t indicate what increment of change
-
Controls on scrubber and input field have different levels of time accuracy (seconds vs. milliseconds)
- L/R Arrow Key Presses to move playback frame by frame
Thanks for this Arc Idea! If I can add to this, there seems to be inconsistencies with the playback modals depending on what you're doing in Video Center. In addition to the above, if you go to create a thumbnail image from a video, there appears to be no basic playback option. You essentially have to scrub and guess where in the video you'd like to stop on for picking the thumbnail image. This is unlike the Clip Video modal, which gives you access to more options mentioned above.
If any of this should be in its own Arc Idea submission, please let me know and I'll file it.
Thanks again,
Troy
In further testing, number 3 looks to be resolved!
