The new "featured media" tab is great, but it would be even greater if, instead of "choose an option" for the Media Type and Media Key drop-down menus, a default could be set. For example, "image" and "basic."
This would be useful because if "image" and "basic" are the most commonly used options, setting them as default would save users two extra clicks (which add up if you're creating dozens and dozens of stories). Of course, users who want a different media type will have to click away from it, but they have to click away from "choose an option" anyway, so it's no extra work for them.
Thank you.
Ken
This issue will be "mitigated" in the new Composer 2.0 UI in Q1 2024 by getting featured media down to one click.
Hi, have you got some news about this feature ?
Hello any update regarding this feature?
Hi there,
If I can add to this idea, would it be possible to present these options as radio buttons instead of two dropdown menus? Or do you see this space becoming cluttered with radio buttons depending on how many Media Types and Media Keys an organization may have set up?
Thanks!
In our template image and basic are set - but not that we're doing it consciously - they are the only options so they are set there by default.
I can see that it might be useful to some to have an admin set different templates for different types of featured media - but we are trying not to overwhelm our users with templates - so until we get the ability to set a favorite template or group of templates we probably wouldn't consider doing this.
Thanks for all of the feedback so far! Just to raise an alternative solution to get some additional feedback, will this make more sense as something an admin can set at a template level? How do you all use the featured media tab in templates, currently?
Thanks!
Yes, that would work for us as well.
It would definitely help us to have one default for everyone and then let the user pick something else on the rare occasions they would need to do that.
For our org, at least, one system-wide setting would work beautifully.
Lynda - Agreed! That will definitely be the case. But just wanted to clarify that the user story Angela wrote above is that an admin can set the default media type and media key for all users across the organization. Want to make sure that setting it across the org (for all users) will be useful.
My opinion is that setting a default should not prevent the user from selecting something else from the list if there is a list.
Hi all - I'm hoping to confirm a detail regarding the above user story:
Will setting it (as an admin) for the whole org help solve the problem? Or are there circumstances where different users in the org need different defaulted media type and media key
Thanks!
Below is the rough cut of the user story:
Background
Right now Ellipsis doesn't let customers specify the default featured media type (image, gallery, video, or HTML) or the default key. Instead, Ellipsis always prompts users to select an option for each of these fields. Here is a screenshot from the existing UI but this ticket will still apply in the new React rewrite.
User Story
As an admin, I'd like to set a default type and key for featured media, so that Ellipsis users avoid unnecessary clicks to use the most common featured media option.

Thanks for raising this! I've added this to the roadmap to be worked in one of the next few sprints.
