Ideas for Arc XP

Notification trigger when “send to print” is triggered

As a print editor, I want to be notified when a story is sent to print so I can grab it in a timely manner.

I also want to be notified about any subsequent send to print actions  in addition to the initial one.

    Hi Lynda,

My comment was addressing the second point in the original post, "I also want to be notified about any subsequent send to print actions in addition to the initial one" and Guillaume's post. Since WebSked sends events for subsequent actions on a pitch to publications I wanted to be sure your teams were aware of the latest updates.

Regarding the first point about having the "Send to Print" button in Composer send a notification: because the integration of the "Send to Print" button is strictly between Composer and a customer's Print CMS WebSked does not have what it needs to be able to send a notification. As Ryan said above, modifying your custom middleware is the best way to make notifications available.

Nevertheless, there are a few other paths forward, but I'm afraid you'll have to speak to your TAM or submit an idea on Composer's Ideas portal:

    1. Recommend that Composer publish a "Send to Print" event internally for other Arc applications like WebSked to use for triggering notifications

    2. OR recommend Composer publish a "Send to Print" event to IFX so any integration can use that event.

There is already a related idea in Composer's Ideas portal where this conversation could get some additional input: https://ideas.arcxp.com/ideas/CC-I-4 I have let the Composer team know about this, so I hope that hearing from both of us will help propel the request.

Thanks for your interest and time!

I don't see how Publication Pitch Update has anything to do with notification for Send to Print. And I don't see anything like that in our sandbox or production environments - am I missing something?

    Hi All,

I know this is a long time coming, but we've been making improvements to our events so I want to make sure you are aware of them.

The Publication Pitch Update event includes information on several changes to a pitch:

    • Booked

    • Declined

    • Change in Edition (date)

    • Change in Section

    • Change in Backlog<>Edition

    • New Notes

If you have a webhook integration with your Print CMS, you should be able to see these events.

Also, you may have also seen with the release of WebSked 4.81 that all WebSked events, including the Publication Pitch Update are available in IFX. That enables your engineering team to do more complex business logic on the content that is triggered by the event.

You can learn more about using events via webhooks vs. IFX WebSked machine-readable events page.

We do not plan to add a Send to Print notification trigger within the next year, but it is certainly possible to extend your existing webhook -- modifying your custom middleware -- to also notify your team.

It is definitely a must-have in order to smoothen the Web to Print integration. Print editors must be aware when something changes for the print.
