Currently, it is not possible to search Websked using Arc ID. It is possible to find an Arc ID within the metadata of a story card but this is a few clicks and not ideal.
Having the Arc ID on the plain text list would be beneficial too as it would be used by a content chief or news director who is turning their search into a list for handover to the morning crew. If the ID was on the text list it would be very easy for them to copy and paste all the info in one go instead of painstakingly clicking and opening individual items.
Hi Toni,
Thanks for sharing the details -- I appreciate understanding your workflow more. I am collecting research on how to improve the Plain Text export so this is helpful information.
I don't have immediate plans for updating this, but I do have it on the long-term roadmap. Please feel free to share any other recommendations by reaching out to me through your TAM.
Thanks!
Stuart
Hi Stuart,
Yes, we’d like to be able to input the Arc ID into the search box in the stories tab to bring up the item, in the same way that we can do in Composer.
We’d also like the Arc ID to be visible on the front of the story details, in the same way as we can see the slug in the example attached.
This is because the newsroom managers would like to be able to copy the Arc ID from items while looking at the Websked search list (at the moment they need to open each article or use the Meta option at right to see the Arc ID)
The use case for having the Arc ID more readily visible and easy to copy is that our homepage editors could use it from here to manually place the item in Pagebuilder.
Also our News Directors who are drawing up content lists for print and digital planning use the Arc ID as the main story identifier and so want to be able to quickly copy it out into our electronic file for other team members to use for quick access.
Attached is an example of the newslist which is created a few days prior and constantly updated with each day’s content as it comes to hand.
If the Arc ID was included in the information on the plain text list it would be even easier for the News Directors to create a list like the one above by starting with the Plain Text info and adding story details, copying and pasting into the desired order for news planning.
I hope that helps.
Toni
Hi Toni,
Thanks for submitting this idea. Can you give me a little more detail? If I understand correctly:
You would like to be able to search for content in the upper left of the Stories tab based on Arc ID
You would like for WebSked to show the ArcID when you export the Plain-test list
Do I have that right?
If so, can you tell me what the next step is? Meaning, once the content chief or news director has passed on the Arc ID, how does the morning crew work with it? I'd like to understand the entire workflow so I can help with streamlining the process.
Thanks!
