Ideas for Arc XP

layout definitions should have an optional description property

The id property of a layout section is what is seen in PB admin when editing templates and pages. This is (probably) fine for developers but editors may want to see something more descriptive/human. Therefore, it would be nice if a layout section had a "description" property that would be seen in PB admin if supplied, otherwise, fallback to the id. Bonus points if the "description" could be made editable within PB itself so that editors could describe the layout section however they want depending on the context of the page/template they are working with.

I was going to post something similar. Beyond just the Layout I would like an free form field (with limited length ;- ) where I can describe what a Template is used for. We often have similarly named Templates with very specific use cases. It's critical to be able to describe what each one is used for, how it is maintained, and where changes to one should be reflected in another.

How does WaPo name their layouts? Is this a problem in real-world experience?
