We're looking in Composer 2.0 for a similar feature that's in Photo Center, in which if a required field hasn't been filled in yet, there's a red box surrounding it. (see attached screenshot for context)
At the moment, in Composer 2.0, just the "(required)" text appears next to the field title. It would be more clear to the editor that something hasn't been filled in yet that's required to save/publish if the red box displayed.
If you click into a field in Composer 2.0, it appears to fade to a blue color. We're looking for something similar when the required field is blank and not selected, it would be the red color.
