As Arc continues to look for ways to improve the Composer service, we're looking to see if the "Description" field can be an option to add to the Compose tab, rather than only being available under the Planning or Meta tabs. If this idea already exists, please close/merge this.
The issue is sometimes this field doesn't get updated over time because it's not seen without going to the other tabs. Opening articles in Composer defaults to the Compose tab, and the user has to remember to go to the Planning or Meta tab to update the information if needed.
We currently have the ability to make the Description field a required one to fill in before publishing, but having this right on the Compose tab would allow the user to see exactly what this information is as they update stories.
Another possibility is to use AI, in which if Composer detects a lot of changes made to the story compared to the previous revision, or if the information near the top of the article changes quite a bit, it could recommend to "review" the Description field to ensure it has the latest information. Headline changes could also trigger this recommended message.
If possible, all of this should be configurable at the group level via Settings to prevent any disruption to current workflows.
