Ideas for Arc XP

Ability to hide Photo Title in Galleries that display before the caption

As a producer, I don't want the image titles to display before the captions in photo galleries. The title either replicates the info in the caption or isn't meant for human consumption on our websites so we would like to not display this data.

The title of the image is often the same as the Title of the gallery so it's just repetitive. It also looks like part of the Caption and even though it's in bold it reads awkward as a full sentence.

We would support removal of this field on the website all together or if this could be a toggle that we could disable in out gallery block so the title doesn't display that would be ideal.

Thanks for your feedback – we'll gauge if more interest comes for this capability.

Hi Sara, Image titles are required in our setup so our users can best find images that pertain to the content they are working with in the Arc admin. It's a field that displays and provides more information for our producers, but isn't a field that we want to expose on the frontend. Attached in an example of the Arc admin. The photo on the left doesn't have a title and in the admin at a quick glance I don't have a clue what it's about. The photo on the right does have a title (that likely matches the AP story) and I can quickly identify what story it goes with. Our AP feeds likely have the same titles for the story and all of the images. It's not something that we want to display multiple times in a story with multiple images.

We would want the ability to hide the title for all images - those within a gallery and standalone.

It's just not a field that we've ever exposed on our websites and honestly doesn't mean anything to a site visitor, but it's so helpful for our producers. The caption and credit information is what we want to display to our site visitors.

Hi Sara – can you share a bit more about why images have content in the Title, if that's not meant to be displayed to readers? Also, would you want the ability to hide the title only on images within a gallery, or for all images (e.g. standalone images in an article body)? Thanks for any info!
