At the moment, the photographer name is added in brackets at the end of the image caption. I don't know if this is standard practice in the US so that all readers understand that the name in brackets is the photographer, but as a Swedish paper we find that this confuses our readers.
Since Arc Themes wants to be a product for news organizations from all over the world, I suggest that a custom setting is added for how photographer is presented. For us that would mean removing the brackets and adding "Foto: " in front of the name.
Thanks for reaching out on this case. We would prefer to have the credit at the end of the caption and without parenthesis, and the agency in parenthesis - like this FOTO: name name (AP/NTB). (NB - if no agency, please make sure that the empty parenthesis do not appear :)
If the image type in Photo Center is photograph, then FOTO should be used, if the type is illustration then ILLUSTRATION should be used, and if it’s graphic then GRAPHIC should be used. These terms should be language dependent, so for Norwegian we have ILLUSTRASJON but for Swedish ILLUSTRATION. For Norwegian GRAFIKK and Swedish GRAFIK. FOTO is the same for both.
Thanks for this feedback. I have a couple of questions for you:
Would this (FOTO: name name) come at the end of the caption, or the beginning?
Should it include parenthesis or not? (FOTO: name name) or FOTO: name name
Where would you place the credit (e.g. agency, like Reuters or AP)?
For the example of having FOTO or ILLUSTRASJON – how would you want to determine which label shows up on a given photo?
Thanks, these details will help us determine how we might be able to do this.
We would really like you to change this, so the standard is (FOTO: name name) or (ILLUSTRASJON: name name)
