Ideas for Arc XP

Carryover Photo/Image File Names Upon Upload

Provide an option to import the image file name into the Caption field of the photocenter entry.

This pertains to image upload in the UI.

The problem this will solve is the tedious naming of bulk image uploads.

For example, when we're uploading fashion week imagery, the images make up a set and need to be labeled with their consecutive "look" numbers (i.e. NYFW Spring Summer 2022, Gucci, Look 1; NYFW Spring Summer 2022, Gucci, Look 2). Each of these sets can contain 80ish images. During fashion week seasons we often upload 1-4 gallery sets per article and publish around 5 articles like this a week over a month period (and this happens 4 times a year). Having to go through each image to name it with the correct parameter is extremely time consuming, especially when you consider how many images this needs to happen on!

    Hi Larry,

In this case, in this case, the editors have added their own file names to the images that they want to carry through - it's not in the image file meta data.

For example, if I wanted to have the file name "New Paywall" to carry through to the image caption upon upload (attached).

    Hi Natalie,

Thanks for the additional insight. I agree that does sound tedious.

A follow-up question though: do those images have the image metadata (IPTC) filled out by the photographer or photo editor? In this case, if the IptcDirectory.TAG_CAPTION, is filled out before uploaded it will automatically populate the IptcDirectory.TAG_CAPTION value into the caption field for the image in Photo Center.

We appreciate you sharing more of your workflow with us!

    Thanks,

    Larry

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

    1. Image upload in the UI (I didn't know you could upload images via API)

    2. Problem this will solve is the tedious naming of bulk image uploads. For example, when we're uploading fashion week imagery, the images make up a set and need to be labeled with their consecutive "look" numbers (i.e. NYFW Spring Summer 2022, Gucci, Look 1; NYFW Spring Summer 2022, Gucci, Look 2). Having to go through each image to name it with the correct parameter is extremely time consuming, especially when you consider how many images this needs to happen on!

    Hope this helps to clarify.

    Hi Natalie,

Thank you for your idea submission! Can you please help elaborate on 2 things:

    1. is this for image upload in the UI or via API?

    2. what problem will this feature solve for you?

    Thanks,

    Larry
