Alt-Text autofill

Is it possible that the alt text can autofill from the captions when a photo is uploaded?

It seems like this might be something that would be doable. It becomes cumbersome when you upload several photos from an event like a football game to cut and paste every caption. Especially once you get past the first few because then you have to scroll back and forth to cut the caption then to paste it.

I understand the desire to simplify this process, but alt-text protocols are to describe the information, not the picture. Good caption writing should identify the pertinent details of the image, which screen readers will read aloud. Repeating this info in the alt-text does not help the visually impaired person understand more about what the image looks like or the relevance to the story.

I was about to create a feature request identical to this, but instead will lend support to this one. There is a lot of pressure about accessibility with our website, including govt regulations. It is a lot of work for editors to copy/paste every single caption. Starting with the alt-text being auto-filled by the caption would be a huge help. Even if sometimes the original caption contains a minor error that slips through, that's still an improvement over a completely blank field.

If other publishers feel otherwise, I understand. Perhaps it could be an option in the settings which each org could toggle to their own requirement.
