In Composer 2.0, it appears that a user’s preferences of whether something is collapsed or expanded doesn’t stay on refresh or opening of articles. This includes the options in the left panel and the state of the left panel itself.
The expectation for this Arc Idea is that the settings would retain themselves until either the user logs out or clears their cache/cookies.
Another option is to make it a groupwide setting based on the organization's Settings tab. Perhaps one organization favors having the left panel expanded by default, while another may want it collapsed if the article was already created and opened later on.

Hi Troy! We don't have specific timing for this, but we definitely are hoping to get to it on one of our fast follows. I.e we are indeed planning to do it, but can't share specific timing quite yet.
