Ideas for Arc XP

Improving Live Graphics Overlays

User Problem

As a Video Center video publisher creating a Live event, it’s difficult for me to leverage the live graphics functionality due to a few key limitations:

1. Text box preview doesn’t adapt to edits made to the height - it is impossible to visualize the changes that are being made to the text box height before pushing it to a live stream. Without this capability, video publishers are unsure of how their changes will look and therefore avoid leveraging this feature.

  • There is a point at which the pixel height is too big to fit inside text box. The video publishing team would like to known the pixel height range of the text box so that they enter heights that will fit on screen / not get cut off.

2. Can’t set a fixed width for the text box - currently the text box width is controlled by the amount of text characters. There is no way for the video publisher to set a fixed width and have the text wrap when it hits the fixed width.

3. Unable to customize fonts - this is important because each client has unique branding that is conveyed through different fonts

4. Text and Background colors aren’t editable from within Graphics Tab - the current workflow requires video publishers to go into the utilities tab to edit the background & text colors making it very difficult to adjusts how the text displays in coordination with the live content.

  • Not sure why we’re not seeing this functionality from the 1.86 Video Center Release notes  (see image)
    • Current Bug - even when creating a new graphics utility within the Utility tab, the preset is not showing up in the Graphics tab within the Live event.

Desired Outcome

Streamline the user experience that video publishers have with Live Graphics by prioritizing and addressing the concerns above.
